Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq yesterday said stern action will be taken against those who were involved in the attacks during Sunday’s eviction drive at Tejgaon truck stand in the capital. The mayor said he knew who misguided the workers and that he will not allow anybody to occupy roads and none will be allowed to park vehicles on roads. “An influential group erected illegal structures and shops on the truck stand premises and are involved in drug dealings. If illegal structures are removed from the truck stand, they will count losses. That’s why they pelted stones during the eviction drive. The attackers will face tough action. You (people) just co-operate with me,” the mayor told journalists at media briefing at a city hotel yesterday.  Huq also claimed that those, who had been grabbing the truck stand land, possess black money. “The grabbers played the card of politics with me. I did not say anything. There were police with me but they did not do anything. Many things could be done because there was force but they remained silent,” he added. Huq also said that he has requested the home ministry and police administration to nab the attackers. “None will be spared. Those who tried to show power are doing it by the power of drugs and extortion money. This power will not sustain,” he observed.  The mayor also said that a modern truck stand will be constructed and that the people will get the benefit soon as there will be no illegal parking on roads in the Tejgaon truck stand area.
